Boiling Point

Raeyn's picture

-About two weeks ago-

Lai-Ning woke up slowly, yawning and stretching.

For just a moment, she laid in bed with her eyes closed, enjoying the comfort, listening to the birdsong, hearing Gozo singing in the kitchen.

‘…wait…this isn’t the Garrison…’

Her eyes flew open.

Sunlight streamed through her open window, filling her bedroom with light.

-Her bedroom-. In Elwynn. Not her bunk in Dranor.

“….oh no! Nonono! I’m not due for time off!”

In a flurry of blankets, Lai jumped out of bed, running down the hall to the kitchen.

With a broad smile, Gozo turned from the stove.

“Good morning, Little Lai! You were sleeping quite hard….I did not feel right waking you up! I hope you do not mind.”

She gazed at him for a moment, sleep making her thoughts muddled. Then she shook her head.

“I…yes, I do mind! I’m supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be at the Garrison, helping with the-”

“I sent a letter to Commander Forrester, Little Lai. You needed to come home. You wanted to come home, so I brought you home. Everything is fine.”

Her paws clenched. There was a twinge of anger in her voice.

“I can’t believe you did that! Gozo, I have work to do! Oh, where is my comm, I need to-”

Gozo brought the small stone out from his apron pocket.

“Right here. I have been keeping track of what’s going on, and-”

“You were -listening-?!”

There was the anger bubbling up again.

“Give it back.”

He tucked it back into his pocket, fixing her with a steady gaze.

“I do not think it would be a good idea, Lai-Ning.”

“Give. It. Back.”

I will not. It is for your own goo-”

A wave of ice burst from her fingertips, covering Gozo’s feet and legs. He stood still, his paw still firmly tucked inside his pocket.

Keeping his gaze on her, Gozo shook his head.

Her paws fell to her sides.

The ice vanished from his legs as her shoulders started to shake.

“I..I’m sorry…I’m so sorry….”

Turning, she fled back to her bedroom.

I’m really sorry for just up and leaving. I didn’t expect Gozo to actually take me home, although I really should have….

I know this is a terrible, awful time. Between Dolraan and the Major, there’s far too many down for anybody to be away.

But…Gozo’s right. I can’t keep going like this. I can’t sleep, I can’t focus. I’m angry over the smallest things.

I feel so helpless, and it’s not just because I can’t help a whole lot with the situation.

I feel helpless about myself.

It was just a matter of time before everything that’s happened finally caught up with me, I suppose….

I am going to get help, promise.

I’ll be back as soon as I can. But not before I’m ready.

"Hey mountain, I heard

"Hey mountain, I heard something about Lai feeling not so good so I went to Halfhill to buy some fresh dumplings during my free time!"

"... my timing is awkward again isn't it?"

"When there is a will there is a way"

"Lead? Me? Nope, no no no no. Bad things happen when I lead. People die and I appear somewhere in Horde territory... with no pants!"
